MISTAKES People worry about speaking a foreign language. They are afraid of making mistakes. They don't want to be embarrassed. That's exactly their huge mistake. If someone really wants to learn another language they must take risks. They must try. And yes! They will fail. This is part of the learning process. There is an expression that says: “No pain, no gain”. This saying is related to doing exercises. For language learning I can add: “No mistakes, no learning.” I was watching a TED talk with Marianna Pascal. The title of her Ted talk is: Why You Should Speak English Like You’re Playing a Video Game. She talks about a boy she was observing playing videogame. The boy was terrible as a player. He shot a lot and killed very few. But, he kept on play nonetheless . But the more he plays the more he learns. And, above all, he was having fun anyway. We should have the same approach when learning a new language. So, be bold, be corageous. Go there and do it,...

A CHERRY ON TOP A “cherry on top” means metaphorically that something small and special is added to something else that is also very nice to make it just that much more enriched. It comes from the idea that a bowl of ice cream is wonderful, but even more wonderful if a cherry is put on top.

METAPHOR If you say that someone is the black sheep you are using a metaphor. A  metaphor   is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison.

THE BLACK SHEEP If you have a cousin who seems to be the one troublemaker in your family, you can call her the black sheep. In other words, she doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of your family members.

There are many sheeps in this picture. Almost all sheeps here are white. One sheep is different. One sheep is black. The black sheep is among the white sheep.

Have you ever felt like doing something different? I love this picture. It is amazing. Here we can see five wind-up toys. One toy felt like doing somethning different. And he did. He stopped being a wind-up toy and, bye bye guys!

Learning a second language is one of the ways you can exercise your brain. To get fit you must go to the gym. You must exercise. You must do it every day. If not every day, at least as frequent as possible. To learn a second language is like going to the gym. You must practice, you must insist. Remember, no pain, no gain.

Do you listen to English every day? If you don't, you should. Listening to another language is not easy. So, if you want to get better, you must listen. The more the better. An audiobook is a recorded reading of a book. Have you ever listened to an audiobook?

Do you have a healthy lifestyle? My name is Julia. I go to the gym every day. I also have a very balanced diet. I avoid junk food. So, I can say I have a healthy lifestyle. Of course I love pizza, hamburgers, and etcetera. But I don't eat junk food every day. I rarely eat junk food. I love this photo. I took this photo yesterday.
