MISTAKES

People worry about speaking a foreign language. They are afraid of making mistakes. They don't want to be embarrassed. That's exactly their huge mistake. If someone really wants to learn another language they must take risks. They must try. And yes! They will fail. This is part of the learning process. There is an expression that says: “No pain, no gain”. This saying is related to doing exercises. For language learning I can add: “No mistakes, no learning.”

I was watching a TED talk with Marianna Pascal. The title of her Ted talk is: Why You Should Speak English Like You’re Playing a Video Game.

She talks about a boy she was observing playing videogame. The boy was terrible as a player. He shot a lot and killed very few. But, he kept on play nonetheless. But the more he plays the more he learns. And, above all, he was having fun anyway. We should have the same approach when learning a new language.

So, be bold, be corageous. Go there and do it, have fun! Just do it!
